Avoiding Stress At Work

There are so many different events in our lives and situtations that we might find ourselves in that can cause us to experience stress. One of the most common is probably found at work.

With the economy the way that it has been recently in the United States, many people have lost their jobs or are having a hard time finding new work. Sometimes just knowing that the job market is so difficult can cause stress.

While looking online I found many great suggestions of ways that you can avoid stress at work. Sometimes stress is unavoidable but hopefully you can use these tips to lessen the impact of stress on your life.

#1: Sleep Well – If we haven’t been sleeping well or going to bed early enough each night we have a tendency to over-react to things that would normally only bother us slightly. When we are exhausted and worn out we might react in a way that would be negative and cause us to be more stressed.

#2: Realize You Can’t Control Everything – There are some things that we can control in life and there are others that we can’t. If we go around thinking that we should be able to control the weather or the traffic or any number of things that we can’t control you are bound to be stressed. If you are worried about losing your job but you are the best employee your company has, don’t worry about it. Just keep doing your best.

#3: Avoid Overtime – Most jobs will require some amount of overtime during the life of the job but if you notice that you are constantly doing something for work, learn how to say no. You need to have time to spend on your hobbies or going on a vacation.

#4: Visit The Gym – I know from experience that after you have worked a long day you often don’t feel like you have the energy to go to the gym or play a game of basket ball with your children. When you feel this way just push those feelings aside and go running for 20 minutes. Your body will release endorphins which will make you fell better and less stressed. (This will also help you out quite a bit with suggestion number one.)

When it really comes down to it, all you can do is your best, no more and no less. If you get stressed at work, take a break and walk away from the situation if possible. Take a walk around the block or just shut your eyes and imagine that you are on a beautiful beach.
